Cerne Abbas // Dorset

December 23rd, 2004

This set is from the town of Cerne Abbas, which is in Dorset.
When Cerne Abbas is mentioned, many will think of the very rude giant carved into a chalk hill above the village. It is thought that the carving dates back to before the coming of the Romans. However, in the eyes of the local inhabitants Cerne’s main claim to fame is not the giant, but rather the very ancient streets and buildings that make up the village itself. The village is a jewel set in the beauty of the Dorset hills.
Unfortunatly I didn’t manage to get any decent photos of the Giant himself, but I did find a rather cool clock of the man… with the second-hand being… well lets just say… his pride and joy.

U’ve got good pics, the site could use a tiny bit of work (no offense) but it’s still awesome.

In Zeiten von massenhaft Websitenmüll im Internet eine sehr gut aufgebaute Website, nicht überdimensioniertes Design und sehr gut recher-schierte Hintergrundinformationen.

Once again, another truely awsome set of images from a wonderfull place surrounded by endless beauty and colorful people. I look forward to someday
visiting many European contries to experience all they have offer (it will happen someday).
I don’t care what type of camera or lens you used or what the f-stop was or any of that other technical bullshit. I like the images because they grab you with their realness (?) and they make you say “WOW”!
In todays’ endless electronic world of “on-demand” entertainment, if something can grab your brain for longer than usual to make you think about what you’re viewing that’s a good thing.
Of course, I must bring it down a notch or two by asking about the Giant in the clock, shouldn’t it say ‘Cerne Giant “COCK” Clock’ ? I’ll bet he hates noon.

lol :-)… thanks for the comment Scott (and your many others I’ve just read) I really appreciated them all. You say you want to visit Europe, where are you from?
I suppose all us Europeans take our history and culture too much for granted, we don’t really take time to sit back and look at what we have. Thanks for making me do that, should definitely think about it more often.

Do you take any photos, have you got a site?
