Sparklz Machine

February 22nd, 2005

Right, this is gonna be new. Something I haven’t tried before this very moment… I’m combining image taken from two cameras into one set, how exciting I hear you scream! Or perhaps not… But I think it could produce some interesting sets of images.
I’m using my Canon 10D for the wider view and my IXUS 500 (with homemade close-up attachment) for the macro shots.

About the photos then, this set is of one of the coolest / unique toys I’ve seen for a while. It’s a Sparklz flint spinny thing. Basically you wind it up and let it do its magic. It spins like a mentalist and produces some very cool sparks, which come courtesy of the two flints and a bed of sandpaper.
Only about £10 and will entertain any 23 year old kid for almost an hour or frighten the crap out of any Siamese cat called Toby. :-)

Update:
The Sparklz toy is made by Kikkerland and designer by Chico Bicalho. They have different spinney toys here (I want them all). And here’s a video of my Sparklz toy spinning (needs Apple’s .mov).

These are great shots of a cool toy. We actually used to have more things like this when I was a kid (like little ray guns that shot out sparks). Little pleasures are the best. Nice set of photos.
